Puerta de Hierro, with a selection of more modern housing, is a little further out but still with good transport links. The nearby neighbourhood of Conde de Orgaz, has a large French speaking community and is in close proximity to the Lycée Français de Madrid.Ĭhamberí is a traditional Madrid neighbourhood to the North of the city close to Parque Santander and a wide variety of leisure activities. These areas are all close to many international schools including Colegio San Patricio, Maxwell, Dallington, Numont and City Country School. There are more houses here as opposed to apartments. Mirasierra is on the edge of the city but still well served by public transport. They are all close to the city, yet relatively quiet and with easy access to public transport and Retiro Park. Salamanca, Retiro and Arturo Soria are considered to be excellent areas to live with families, as is El Viso with its sought after villas. The city has a vast array of museums, galleries, monuments and interesting architecture including a fully preserved Egyptian temple, a thank you gift from Egypt to Spain. Madrid is world renowned for its abundance of art and culture. Like most of Spain, locals are very sociable and welcoming towards children cafés and restaurants will have all age ranges and unlike a lot of Northern Europe, it's OK for the kids to be heard as well as seen! Public transport is excellent and Madrid is considered to be very safe and affordable when compared with other major European cities. It is a beautiful and surprisingly green city, with tree lined avenues and many parks and playgrounds. In spite of this Madrid is an excellent place to bring up a family if you are moving to Spain. This more than doubles if you include the metropolitan area. Spain’s capital city of Madrid is the third largest in Europe with a population of 3.3 million. Many schools are bi, or even tri-lingual and all pupils being educated in Spain will need to learn Spanish as part one of their subjects. There are 56 international schools in Madrid, with 27 British schools, 22 IB schools in Madrid and many other nationalities are represented including American, French, German, Swedish and Swiss.
